Crossbeam Systems Cuts Cost of Network Security

By Jessica Kostek, TMCnet Channel Editor

Crossbeam Systems, provider of next-generation security platforms for high-performance networks, has published a white paper to help companies better understand and manage the spiraling cost of network security.

“The Growing Cost of Network Security: There is an Answer!” is designed help Information Technology (IT) professionals save operational expenses through virtualized consolidation in an environment where they are challenged by the rising cost and management complexity of network security and are under pressure from increasing Web 2.0 and other cyber threats.

Good thing too, not only for those who want to save money but for those who also want/need to stay secure. After all, TMC (News - Alert) has been reporting of retail and data breaches.  Crossbeam’s (News - Alert) white paper can be found here.

Telecom watcher TeleChoice projects that a typical Fortune 1000 company spends more than 50 percent of its IT budget per year on labor, just to manage all of the security appliances within its network. Companies have also seen their energy bills spiral out of control as they try to manage the increased power consumption in their data centers.

“While the real-time speed of the Web has increased productivity and global communications, it has opened security holes in the network that didn’t exist a few years ago,” said Peter Doggart, director of product marketing, Crossbeam Systems.

Doggart continued, “Historically, companies have increased their security profile by throwing more appliances at the problem, but that has led to networks that are incredibly difficult to map, manage and maintain. The advances in virtualization and consolidation that Crossbeam has pioneered in the most demanding network environments show that there is a better way to rein in the appliance sprawl and control costs while improving security.”

Crossbeam enables customers to consolidate their security infrastructure on a carrier-class scalable security platform that virtualizes the delivery of best-of-breed security applications.

The X-Series is the highest-performing security platform, tested to wire-line rates of 40 gigabytes per second (Gbps) with ultra-low latency, providing unprecedented levels of scale and flexibility to support the security requirements of large enterprise and carrier networks. Customers who use the X-Series will protect their internal networks and deliver virtualized services such as firewall, VPN and intrusion prevention, while reducing the cost and complexity of security services deployment within their data centers.

“The Growing Cost of Network Security: There is an Answer!” looks at how consolidation and virtualization lead to less equipment to purchase, manage and maintain as the cables, patch panels and racks needed to support multiple dedicated security appliances are reduced to a single Crossbeam chassis.
