Mutualinks Provides Security for Presidential Inauguration

By Raju Shanbhag, TMCnet Contributing Editor

At the inauguration of President Barack Obama in Washington, D.C., security agencies used Mutualink’s multimedia sharing platform to easily communicate over incongruent radio and telephone systems and share direct live video surveillance feeds.

Agencies that used Mutualink’s multimedia sharing platform include the Washington DC Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority Police (WMATA-MTPD), United States Park Police (USPP), Pentagon Force Protection Agency (PFPA) and New Jersey Transit Police Department (NJTPD).

According to Mark Hatten, CEO of Mutualink, “The success of this deployment in the context of a mission critical event like the presidential inauguration underscores that Mutualink has developed a very low cost, ready, proven and capable system that will support a wide range of advanced emergency interoperable communications needs. Our system is designed for plug and play installation.”

Mutualink easily deployed its platform within two weeks to offer situational awareness and rapid coordinated communications response capabilities to the security agencies. The company deployed its platforms at agency headquarters, police dispatch operations, emergency management centers and three mobile command vehicles for this event.

Using the Mutualink platform, the Washington DC MPD was also able to have command center remote telephone connectivity with local radio communications as well as share video, voice and text with other agencies from fixed and mobile centers.

Mutualink’s multimedia interoperability solution offers secure, real time interoperable radio, telephone, dispatch voice, video and data communication. Back in June, the company launched its Value Added Reseller (VAR) program for its equipment and network services that it claims will offer wholesale margins to attract qualified parties.
