Exaprotect Urges the IT Industry to Strengthen Network Security

By Raju Shanbhag, TMCnet Contributing Editor

When it comes to data security, leaving the network vulnerable to attacks from outsiders and insiders is not the only mistake network administrators can make. Exaprotect, a provider of enterprise security management innovation, has warned companies about providing unintentional access to remote malicious users by downloading illegal software on the net.

In the tough economic situation, the number of infected computers can increase as companies and individuals may download pirated software to save money. Also, many companies are doing away with anti-malware applications that can identify and shut down network threats in minutes. Experts believe that this has opened the floodgates for the attackers to do what they want with the victim’s systems.

Recently, Intego reported a new Trojan horse, OSX.Trojan.iServices.A, which it said can be found in the pirated copies of Apple's iWork 09 found on BitTorrent (News - Alert) trackers and other sites containing links to pirated software. A new variant of the Trojan, OSX.Trojan.iServices.B was found on BitTorrent trackers on January 26, 2009.

This malicious software connects to a remote server over the Internet, alerting the creator of the Trojan that it has been installed on multiple Macs, and has the ability to connect to them and perform various actions remotely.

“IT Security executives are focused on protecting against external security attacks, but they have not put the same protection in place to detect infected desktops or servers within their IT environments. If we adopt an industry-wide best practice to diligently monitor and protect our internal networks, we can remediate DDoS at the source, and protect each other against external security attacks, too," said Christophe Briguet, CTO of Exaprotect (News - Alert).

Exaprotect suggests a threat detection system, coupled with an automated response and remediation process to protect against these types of attacks. The company states that its enterprise security products help networks fight security threats, with integrated Event Management and Network Security Configuration Management appliances.

In December last year, the company launched version 3.1 of LogManager and EventManager, its Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) appliances. With this release, Exaprotect introduced a new architecture that supports high performance with extended scalability and high availability.
