Devicescape Intros Program to Customize Easy WiFi Application

By Anshu Shrivastava, TMCnet Contributing Editor

Devicescape reportedly has announced a new program to customize its “Easy WiFi (News - Alert)” application specifically to a service provider’s own network footprint and brand.

The new program offers service providers their own “locked Easy WiFi” application which automates access only to their own network and roaming partners, according to company officials.

According to industry experts, historically, WiFi connectivity has been a source of frustration for PC and smartphone users despite of the increasing relevance of WiFi as a way to enable media-rich services.

Company officials said that in the “Devicescape WiFi Report,” issued January 2009, respondents stated that complicated login screens, difficulty identifying appropriate hotspots and poor quality-of-service were key complaints.

Officials claimed that Easy WiFi bypasses these complications. This results in increase of overall customer satisfaction and usage.

For most smartphone and PC platforms such as Symbian (News - Alert) S60, Apple iPhone OS, and Windows, Devicescape can create locked Easy WiFi applications. Officials said that the applications can be branded to meet the needs of the service provider, and distributed to end-users through embedding in devices and on-line through Web sites and app stores.

Caroline Berry, sales and marketing director at Trustive, said that her company needed a way for our customers to have a seamless, one-click connection to WiFi on the iPhone (News - Alert).

She said: “We turned to Devicescape to develop a locked Easy WiFi hotspot application, adding that now, with Devicescape, our iPhone customers can “effortlessly” tap into any of our more than 90,000 WiFi networks.

Recently, Devicescape released “locked” versions of Easy WiFi for several major networks, including AT&T, T-Mobile US and Trustive (News - Alert). According to company, these applications are available for the iPhone and iPod touch at the Apple (News - Alert) App Store.

San Bruno, California-based Devicescape is a provider of Easy WiFi, and it has worked with device manufacturers and service providers since its inception. Some of the company’s solutions include Easy WiFi for Handsets, Easy WiFi for PCs and Easy WiFi for Devices.

In January, the company announced that it had surpassed the one million membership mark, crediting this success to new contracts signed with OEMs and service providers.
