Axway to Prevent Accidental Data Leaks

By Nathesh, TMCnet Contributing Editor

Axway reportedly has launched a hosted offering of its Secure Messenger messaging encryption platform that’s designed to prevent accidental or malicious data leaks.

The platform provides customers with strong, policy-based content filtering and data protection and also offers e-mail senders the option to recall undelivered mail.

The company cited feedback from security managers who say they’re more concerned about data leaks from within the company – both accidental and malicious – than they are about external threats.

“Accidental employee data leaks continue to plague companies around the world and accidental or not, these leaks now signify fines for the companies responsible,” said Joe Fisher, vice president of product and solution marketing at Axway. “We have incorporated a true “oops button” into our encryption offerings, integrated with our policy-based filtering, so companies can protect well-meaning employees when they make honest mistakes.”

The Secure Messenger offers “True Message Recall,” enabling senders to recall misaddressed, incomplete, or obsolete messages they no longer want to be available for the recipient. The solution inspects all outbound e-mail at the network gateway, identifies e-mail content that is in violation of enterprise-defined security policies, and automatically redirects suspect messages to a secure, encrypted e-mail channel for further action, such as deletion, quarantine, or encrypted delivery.

Axway stated that the content can be filtered based on content, sender or recipient and also the Hosted Secure Messenger analyzing the content can choose to block, report, notify managers, or automatically encrypt it based on pre defined policy.

Data protection mandates are being enacted around the world, exposing companies to fines and legal liability for data breaches due to lax security around individuals’ personal information. With these fines and requirements, the need to deploy outbound policy-based encryption for sensitive data is vital, as encryption will ensure adherence with these mandates. Axway claims that their solution can cater to these needs with no upfront infrastructure costs.
