TeliaSonera to Build U.S. Network with Infinera
By Anil Sharma, TMCnet Contributing Editor
TeliaSonera International Carrier, a fully owned affiliate of TeliaSonera AB and a global provider of cross-border (and domestic) communication services, reportedly has selected Infinera to build a new nationwide network in the United States.
Officials at Infinera said that TeliaSonera (News - Alert) is upgrading their nationwide U.S. network and deploying the company’s DTN in order to support the vision of becoming “the global IP carrier of choice.”
According to Infinera (News - Alert), the company’s DTN is the first, and remains the only optical networking system powered by photonic integrated circuits.
The Infinera DTN combines high-capacity DWDM transport, integrated digital bandwidth management, and GMPLS-powered service intelligence in a single platform.
Officials said that Infinera’s digital architecture and ease of operation is expected to help TeliaSonera provide superior flexibility, and improved quality, responsiveness, and service to its customers in the U.S. wholesale market.
“We are happy to have selected Infinera for TeliaSonera International Carrier’s U.S. network. We have undertaken a thorough assessment of options open to us and have been impressed by the strong solution being offered, which allows us to be at the cutting-edge of technological advances in the industry whilst maintaining a competitive cost base and further increasing service levels in our networks,” said Regina Donato-Lundgren, vice president and head of IP Production in TeliaSonera International Carrier Broadband Services.
Jagdeep Singh, chief executive officer at Infinera, said that his company was “delighted” that a leading-edge company like TeliaSonera had chosen his group for its network.
“This is the latest example of a large, forward-thinking incumbent carrier benefitting from the advantages of Infinera’s digital architecture based on large-scale photonic integration,” Singh said.
In March, Infinera announced that it’s Digital Optical Network has been selected by Southern Light, LLC for its regional network in the Gulf Coast states. Southern Light’s Digital Optical Network will bring Infinera’s scalability, manageability, and reliability to a region where customers are highly focused on network reliability.
