CA Inc. Supports BMW with Secure Web-Based Management Tool

CA, Inc., an independent IT management software company, reportedly is supporting BMW with scalable and centralized Web access management and single sign-on.

Officials at CA (News - Alert) said that the improvements would help increase security for the carmaker’s Web applications while lowering IT administration costs.

BMW uses CA SiteMinder, a centralized Web access management solution, to provide user authentication and single sign-on access for more than 300,000 users.

With the solution, BMW would be in a position to manage secure access to a variety of Internet and intranet applications through a single login, company officials say.

SiteMinder is expected to deliver BMW scalable Web access management and a single sign-on, which bolsters both security and compliance. An additional advantage of CA SiteMinder is lower IT administration costs.

CA SiteMinder can be integrated into business applications such as SAP (News - Alert) and PeopleSoft as part of the single sign-on process.

Earlier this month, CA announced the acquisition of certain data center automation and policy-based optimization expertise and assets from Cassatt Corporation, a provider of cloud computing software that makes data centers more efficient. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

This acquisition is expected to strengthen CA’s ability to deliver on the promise of Lean IT for the company customers.

Officials felt that with the addition of Cassatt’s engineering team and advanced data center automation assets, CA will accelerate its development of software that helps customers make more intelligent, business policy-based decisions.

In May, CA, Inc. had announced CA Compliance Manager for z/OS, the first platform-resident solution to provide real-time automated policy management of security and compliance events across the IBM (News - Alert) z/OS environment and mainframe security subsystems – including CA ACF2, CA Top Secret and IBM RACF.

Until now, IT organizations have primarily verified compliance with operational policies by manually checking historical data against their current security implementation – a time-consuming and costly approach that exposes IT organizations to increasing risk as regulatory pressures continue to escalate.
