NGN/IMS Forum's Plugfest 8 Highlights Interoperability for IP Applications, Security

By Amy Tierney, TMCnet Web Editor

A nonprofit association that advocates for the interoperability of IP multimedia subsystem and next generation network applications and services announced it will hold its eighth annual industry-wide event this fall in New Hampshire.

Officials with the NGN/IMS Forum said Plugfest will take place Oct. 5 to 9 in Durham, N.H. This year’s event, called “Plugfest 8,” will focus on interoperability for voice and multimedia applications, BSS/OSS and security inter and intra network. Specifically, experts will discuss: end-to-end interoperability testing for IMS and NGN applications and services; interoperability of the control plane and the diameter protocol; and charging functions impacts on BSS.

The event is a cooperative effort between the Diameter/Control Plane, BSS/OSS and Security Working groups. Participants will include Comverse, HP, Mu Dynamics, Radvision, Tech Mahindra, and Tekelec (News - Alert). Plugfest Eight is being sponsored in part by T-Mobile, Intel and Radvision, as well as Technology Marketing Corporation.

“PlugFest 8 is a great opportunity to demonstrate ‘smart monetization’ approaches as a way to leverage the full potential of Next-Generation Networks, and we are honored to be participants,” said Gabriel Matsliach, general manager, billing and active customer management at Comverse (News - Alert) and vice chair of the BSS/OSS and Security Working Group, in a statement.

According to one participant, Ron de Lange, executive vice president at Tekelec, Plugfest 8 continues the NGN IMS Forum’s (News - Alert) commitment to accelerate deployment of next-generation technology.

“Many operators will rely on existing intelligent network technology for at least the next 10 years, and many will evolve to IMS and NGN technology in that time, requiring interoperability within networks and in between global service providers,” de Lange said. “We are excited to participate and bridge the gaps between networks more rapidly.”

Online registration for Plugfest 8 is available here.

The IMS/NGN Forum recently made headlines when it launched a new community-based, open repository for testing next generation equipment such as multimedia gateways and application servers, as well as new services such as VoIP, converged Web-telephony services and IPTV (News - Alert). As TMCnet reported, the community at www.TestNGN.org gives next generation communications software developers and equipment makers a new online resource to test and validate their solutions.

Don’t forget to check out TMCnet’s White Paper Library, which provides a selection of in-depth information on relevant topics affecting the IP Communications industry. The library offers white papers, case studies and other documents which are free to registered users.
