Yoigo Deploys Procera Networks' DPI Solution

Procera Networks, a developer of evolved deep packet inspection (DPI) solutions providing traffic awareness, control and protection for complex networks, has announced that Spain-based Yoigo has deployed PacketLogic to offer new, prepaid Internet-to-Go services.

Yoigo says that it has leveraged its successful postpaid mobile broadband offering to target an untapped segment of Internet customers.

Yoigo officials said that this removes the uncertainty of not knowing the cost at the end of the month and the feeling of paying for something they might not fully utilize. Moreover, it also enables Spanish residents who still lack a bank account in Spain to get Internet access.

“As a relatively new entrant in the market, we must stand out,” said Johan Andsj, CEO at Yoigo, adding that originally, the company launched a postpaid data service with a maximum cost. Andsj also said that the customer pays for his consumption, but “we don't impede usage since he has a maximum variable cost.”

“Our ambition is to create attractive services and accommodate ever-changing conditions while securing a pertinent business case by managing production costs,” he added Andsj.

A DPI platform, PacketLogic is central to the production of Yoigo's data services. PacketLogic, with the software suite PacketLogic Subscriber Manager (PSM), manages and notifies the subscriber as he is approaching the quota, enabling him to increase his service, or even switch to another service plan.

Procera officials said that the constant changes require PacketLogic to be “extremely” flexible to implement policies to accommodate new conditions.

“Yoigo has innovated and impacted the mobile broadband market through well-aimed actions,” said Jon Lindn, vice president of global marketing at Procera Networks (News - Alert). “They make sure individual customers don't ruin the business case, which enables them to offer a better service to all.”

Earlier in July, Procera Networks announced that its PacketLogic, PL10014, is verified by European Advanced Networking Test Center AG via Internet Evolution peer-to-peer traffic detection test, which was conducted in January 2009.
