Verizon Business’ professional security services team is helping
Deutsche Telekom AG ensure their online-payment system, T-Pay, achieves compliance with the international payment card industry data-security standards.
Each day, T-Pay processes a large amount of confidential financial data, particularly linked to consumer purchases. It is thus very important for the company to meet security compliance with the global “Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard,” which is designed to protect credit card data from misuse.
Deutsche Telekom AG is using a range of consultancy, audit, management and implementation services from Verizon (News - Alert) Business to achieve PCI-DSS certification.
The security of their customers’ financial data is intrinsically linked to their own reputation, noted Karl-Heinz Link, technical product manager for the T-Pay service. Having realized this, their company leverages the experience and expertise of the Verizon Business (News - Alert) team to formally assess their systems, infrastructure and applications to meet PCI-DSS certification. The company also helps them ensure that they are constantly working to improve their overall data security.
Verizon Business states in the “2009 Verizon Business Data Breach Investigations Report,” the importance of PCI compliance for any business that handles confidential financial data. The research revealed that an overwhelming 81 percent of affected organizations subject to PCI-DSS were noncompliant prior to being breached.
Online transactions are very common these days, notes Ciske van Oosten, practice lead for PCI security services, Verizon Business EMEA. He adds that noncompliance with standards such as PCI-DSS will definitely place cardholder information at risk.
Verizon Business is well positioned to offer companies such as Deutsche Telekom (News - Alert) a holistic approach to PCI-DSS compliance. Van Oosten said they have a strong track record and proven experience in this space, and are pleased to bring their experience to bear in support of the T-Pay system.
The PCI-DSS initiative combats credit card misuse and fraud. Established in 2004, the compliance is now obligatory for all global companies that collect process or store credit card data.
