Net Optics (News - Alert) Inc. this week at SUPERCOMM is bringing two new solutions to the table that address the need for more effective monitoring and management of 10gigE networks.

 

New today from Net Optics are the iLink AggXtream and the Director Xstream.

 

Dennis Carpio, director of product innovation, told TMCnet that Net Optics produces a line of products that can pull information off the wire in non-intrusive way and then forward that on to third-party partner tools to allow for security and monitoring. While security and monitoring used to be something of an afterthought for enterprise and service provider network operators alike, adds Carpio, they are now starting to get more attention as a result of fairly new regulations such as HIPPA and Sarbanes Oxley that require all data on the network be secure.

 

The iLink AggXstream is a 24-port 10gigE box that can do flexible port mapping. It combines 10gig and 1gig in one cage so service providers can leverage existing 1gig monitoring tools, which Carpio explains they may opt to do because affordable 10gigE tools are not available and/or because they want to look only at select traffic with particular security or monitoring tools.

 

The Director Xstream, meanwhile, is a data monitoring switch that includes all the functionality of the iLink AggXstream plus filtering.

 

Both products are slated to be generally available by the end of the year. The iLink will sell for around $35,000. The Director will cost about $48,000.
