AT&T Government Solutions has announced a $12 million contract with the Department of Justice to manage and expand the technical capabilities of the “Victim Notification System.”

As per the terms of the contract, AT&T (News - Alert) Government Solutions will be responsible for integrating software systems and the management of the entire program, including quality management, configuration management and risk management.

The Victim Notification System keeps crime victims informed of the status of cases in which they are involved. It has been accepted for prosecution from federal investigative agencies.

Company said that the system serves as the main source of crime victim contact and notification information for the Department of Justice through the U.S. Attorney’s offices and the Criminal Division, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the United States Postal Inspection Service and the Federal Bureau of Prisons.

The Victim Notification System is  automated means for victims of crime to be aware the location and status of a case from arrest through incarceration, said company officials. In addition, it also provides federal crime victims with information on scheduled court events and the outcome of any criminal charges which have been filed.

“As one of the architects of the Victim Notification System for the Department of Justice, AT&T knows firsthand the intricacies of the complexity of the system, from coordinating activities across the respective government agencies to the user training,” said John Klebonis, vice president of AT&T Government Solutions.

He added that AT&T’s proven approach to program management and software engineering will not only help the Department of Justice take advantage of new technologies, but also ensure that victims stay fully informed.

The AT&T’s systems and software development, integrated process and product development and supplier sourcing features that will be used for the Victim Notification System meet a “Capability Maturity Model Integration” Level 3 rating from the Software Engineering Institute of Carnegie Mellon University, according to the company.
