Palo Alto Networks, a provider of next-generation enterprise firewalls,
has announced that its PA-4000 Series firewalls have been selected by
IDT Corporation, a Fortune 1000 company that delivers local, long-distance and calling card services.
IDT provides retail and wholesale telecommunications services and products, including pre-paid and rechargeable calling cards and wholesale carrier services and also operate energy-related businesses. It needed a reliable firewall that is fast, efficient and reliable and had the capacity to increase visibility on the network with next-generation technology. Palo Alto (

Alert) Networks next-generation firewalls met those requirements, and as an added bonus, enabled them to significantly reduce their network security operations costs, IDT officials said.
Palo Alto said that its next-generation firewalls are built on App-ID technology and can accurately identify applications – regardless of port, protocol, evasive tactic or SSL encryption – and scan content to stop threats and prevent data leakage. It will allow enterprises to embrace Web 2.0 and maintain complete visibility and control, while significantly reducing total cost of ownership through device consolidation.
The firewalls enable enterprises to create granular, business-relevant security policies and safely control new enterprise and consumer applications as business enablers instead of the block-or-nothing approach offered by traditional port-blocking firewalls.
According to Palo Alto, the PA-4000 Series is comprised of three high performance platforms, the PA-4060, the PA-4050 and the PA-4020, all of which are targeted at high speed Internet gateway deployments within enterprise environments. The PA-4000 Series manages multi-Gbps traffic flows using dedicated processing and memory for networking, security, threat prevention and management. Built into the solution is a 10 Gbps backplane that eases the pathway between processors and the physical separation of data and control plane thereby making sure that management access is always available regardless of traffic load.
Larry Link, vice president of sales at Palo Alto Networks, said that his company is pleased to work with IDT to improve their network security architecture and increase visibility and control -- all while consolidating their infrastructure and lowering operating costs.
DTE Energy recently
deployed Palo Alto Networks’ next-generation firewalls and Palo Alto firewalls’
enhanced network security for Texas A&M University at Galveston.
