As online dating sites mushroom all across the Internet, spammers are having a blast at the expense of unsuspecting users, often posting fake profiles to lure gullible victims into disclosing their personal financial information.
But now, ThreatMetrix said it has unveiled a way to prevent such online frauds. The company will be exhibiting its solution in the upcoming Internet Dating Conference.
The online businesses, including dating sites, need to stay one-step ahead of spammers by employing effective fraud-fighting tools that prevent abuse without negatively impacting their online business. With ThreatMetrix solutions, a company can find out whether the person using that device is a fraudster or customer.
According to ThreatMetrix, its award-winning online fraud detection and prevention solution is already being used by dating sites such as Date.com, Chellaul Corporation and EDating for Free, Inc. (parent company of Christian Dating for Free, Catholic Dating for Free, and Black Christian Dating for Free).
“The online dating and matching market is under attack from the predatory practices of online scammers,” said Reed Taussig, president and CEO, ThreatMetrix. “Online dating executives recognize this and are turning to solutions like ThreatMetrix to provide a systematic and reliable way to identify fraudsters and make sure that once identified, they can’t return to their dating sites. In doing so, they create a more positive user experience.”
The services from companies such as ThreatMetrix will be necessary for dating sites in areas such as customer authentication (account origination/creation); transaction authentication (payments) and user authentication (log-ins). With the increasing competition, these dating sites need to offer a smooth and secure customer experience and ThreatMetrix claims to help them in this regard.
Last March, the company announced the release of ThreatMetrix Fraud Prevention 2.0. The solution is offered as software-as-a-service (SaaS (News - Alert)) and the upgrade comes as a result of the company’s shift from Australia to the United States at the end 2008. ThreatMetrix Fraud Prevention 2.0 provides instant risk assessment and prevents fraudsters “at the gate,” the company said.
