From Ingate’s launch of SIParator 21 and Firewall 1210 to the adoption of SIP communications in the global telecom industry, ITEXPO West in Austin, TX has been the center for new developments and announcements coming from the SIP world this week. So, this edition of SIP Trunking week in review brings all those important announcements in this column.

For instance, Dave Martin, vice president of marketing for Edgewater Networks (News - Alert) participated in a panel on “Enterprise Session Border Controllers: Extending Beyond Interoperability” at this week’s ITEXPO 2011 in Austin, Tx, TMCnet contributor Rajani Baburajan reported that this panel explored the latest trends in enterprise session border controllers and how they can be used to simplify the adoption of SIP, SIP Trunking and hosted PBX (News - Alert) in the enterprise.

Edgewater Networks also announced that it will be participating in other upcoming events like SCTE Cable-Tec Expo 2011, November 15-17, 2011 and BroadSoft (News - Alert) Connections at the JW Marriott Desert Ridge Resort in Phoenix, AZ, October 16-19, 2011.

Baburajan wrote that recently the company unveiled EdgeProtect Series Enterprise SBC that connects remote employees to headquarters-based enterprise unified communications (UC) system.

Likewise, enterprise session border control (E-SBC) provider Ingate announced at ITEXPO West the availability of its latest products, the SIParator 21 and Firewall 1210 for SMBs. These new E-SBCs are geared for the SMBs and allow for up to 50 concurrent voice (or RTP) sessions, serving enterprises with up to 250 employees, wrote TMCnet contributor Michelle Amodio.

As per Amodio’s report, which is based on the company release, both products feature four 10/100/1000 Mbps interfaces and use compact Flash for storage. Activating the data Firewall, it has a throughput beyond 200 Mbps.

To explore the proliferation of IP-based communication platforms and SIP trunking services, TMC CEO Rich Tehrani (News - Alert) interviewed Mykola Konrad, director of product management at Sonus Networks, a provider of scalable TDM to IP and IP to IP solutions. In this interview, which was reported by TMCnet contributor Beecher Tuttle, Konrad told Tehrani that the most interesting trend in the space is the explosion of over-the-top voice/video applications like Skype. “The steady adoption rates of these bandwidth-hungry applications are putting unique demands on service providers and enterprises, which have responded by aggressively investing in SIP-based technologies, said Konrad, according to Tuttle’s report.

Looking beyond the enterprise and service provider markets, Konrad talked about other hot areas like mobile operating systems and the introduction of Google+.

TMCnet contributor Mini Swamy reported that at ITEXPO West, SIP Forum (News - Alert) chairman Richard Shockey said, “This year’s ITEXPO West presents the SIP Forum with a valuable platform to educate the technology community about the critical path for global adoption of SIP and IP communications. He further added, “It is our role at the SIP Forum to lead this conversation and bring together disparate stakeholders from across the technology spectrum to do the technical work required to implement SIP in this next generation of applications and services.”
