Given the continuing robust growth of SIP trunking, it was no surprise that this week’s features and industry news was dominated by session broader controllers (SBCs). The ones really got our attention were:

  • TMCnet Web Editor Tammy Wolf’s insightful feature on TMCnet’s interview with Ingate Systems (News - Alert) President Steve Johnson on E-SBCs’ impact on unified communications (UC)
  • TMCnet Contributing Editor, Laura Stoler putting the spotlight on Edgewater Networks offering of integrated SBCs for companies of any size to facilitate moving more and more applications and services into the cloud.
  • The related story on Edgewater obtaining Metaswitch SIP Trunking Partner Certification with its EdgeMarc Series of Enterprise Session Border Controllers for the same.

Also of note was the announcement from Optimum (News - Alert) Business that their Optimum Voice SIP Trunking service now has the certification of Cisco Unified Communications 500 Series that is meant for small businesses.

Enterprise VoIP

In Enterprise VoIP activities ranged from new products to industry commentary and the availability of video from TMC’s (News - Alert) ITEXPO West event of the issues surrounding the proposed death of the public switched telephone network (PSTN).

Ingate Systems President Steve Johnson is one of the thought leaders in the SIP community and his insights on video as the next wave in UC, first published in our TMC magazine Internet Telephony, are well worth the read.

On the product and services front, the following stories were featured:

  • TMCnet Contributor Calvin Azuri detailed Polycom’s new SoundStation Duo, a new conference phone that has been designed with dual functionality enabling it to work over analog networks and Voice over IP (VoIP) environments.
  • We gave recognition to Whaleback Systems’ celebration of its fifth year of free phone service to U.S. troops around the world.
  • TMCnet Contributor Carolyn Dawson described the recent announcement that Altitude vBox 4 feature Pack 11 has been made available by top global contact center solutions provider Altitude Software.

We also invite to check out the video from the recent ITEXPO West event in Austin, TX where an expert panel delved into the issues surrounding how VoIP and mobile services are causing the “Death of the PSTN” and what is being contemplated regarding the PSTN’s demise.

Security

Last but certainly not least are the features regarding security developments. These included:

  • M86 Security, provider of appliance, software, and Software as a Service (SaaS) solutions for Web and email security, releasing its WebMarshal 6.9 which has been successfully integrated with the company's M86 VuSafe service that akes it easy for educational institutes to locate, tag, organize and manage and share YouTube (News - Alert) videos without downloading irrelevant videos.
  • TMCnet Contributor Raju Shanbhag, reported on ECG’s new FraudStopper addresses the growing problem of VoIP toll fraud.

Since this is now event and announcement season, we invite you to make sure you review the industry news section of the community. It is exciting that there is so much going on and this is a terrific resource to stay on top of breaking developments.
