North American SIP Trunking Users Will Reach 59 Million by 2017

According to forecasts from Frost & Sullivan (News - Alert), the number of Americans utilizing SIP trunking will increase to nearly 60 million within the next five years. Revenue is forecasted to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 52 percent through 2015.

With SIP trunking, organizations can not only communicate over IP within the enterprise but also communicate outside the network using the traditional PSTN network. Instead of wiring into the PSTN, companies simply use an online SIP trunking service provider, which allows the data network to carry voice traffic. Because the amount of traffic going through the PSTN decreases dramatically, carriers only charge a fraction of the cost for the landline portion of a call.

Many people transition to SIP trunking solutions because of the potential cost savings. At Longmont United Hospital in Colorado, for example, CoreCloud SIP trunking from IntelePeer (News - Alert) has helped the administration to realize a 60 percent savings on monthly calling expenses. The hospital transitioned to SIP trunking from a Primary Rate Interface voice connection.

“IntelePeer's expertise, support and flexibility were essential in making sure our migration from PRI to SIP trunking met our technical and financial objectives,” said Gary Harding, telecom manager for Longmont United Hospital.

In addition to cost savings and smooth migration, Longmont wanted more flexibility and better disaster recovery without compromising either functionality or quality. The CoreCloudsolution, along with Avaya’s (News - Alert) Session Border Controller Advanced for Enterprise, have worked together to create the significant monthly cost savings.

IntelePeer has completed Avaya compliance testing, which was a crucial factor for hospital stakeholders. Other solutions would have required Longmont to use their proprietary SBC instead of allowing them to use the Avaya SBC that was already in place.

“The company's familiarity and compliance with Avaya's full range of equipment gave us confidence that IntelePeerCoreCloud SIP Trunking was the right choice,” explained Harding.

CoreCloud is more than just compliant with Avaya solutions. IntelePeer is a technology partner for Avaya DevConnect (News - Alert), an initiative that works to develop, market, and sell third-party products that allow companies to extend their telephony investment.

“This choice by Longmont United Hospital illustrates the value of Avaya's Unified Communications (News - Alert) systems combined with IntelePeer's easy, flexible approach to providing SIP trunking services,” noted Margaret Norton, general manager of Enterprises at IntelePeer.

“We understand how vital it is for a healthcare provider to have reliable, cost-effective communications. Our SIP trunking services deliver the quality, flexibility and value that businesses need versus legacy approaches.”
