TMCnet SIP Trunking Week in Review

Software-based SIP Trunking got some attention this past week in a column by Ingate Systems’ president Steven Johnson. In this column, Ingate’s president signals industry’s move toward software-based offerings. The idea is to consolidate existing hardware by virtualizing the hardware and running multiple applications on the same platform. Johnson also pointed to the fact that many vendors have standardized on a single vendor server platform.

In both cases, according to Johnson’s column, there is a significant savings in hardware costs and ongoing maintenance.

According to Johnson, Ingate is seeing growth in demand for software-based session border controllers (SBC) and the company has responded with the introduction of the Software SIParator.

As per this column, for IP PBX vendors, the Software SIParator offers an opportunity to develop a single-box solution with SIP trunking functionality and enterprise SBC capabilities fully integrated into their platform. For customers, this is a level of convenience that further simplifies the migration to SIP and SIP Trunking, wrote Johnson.

Speaking of SIParator, TMCnet web editor Amanda Ciccatelli reported that Ingate SIParator enterprise SBC has been rigorously tested at customer sites. And is now a certified member of Aastra Approval Partner Program (A2P2).

With this certification, customers have the opportunity to integrate Ingate products with communications solutions from Aastra, a company at the forefront of the enterprise communications market. “As an Aastra technology partner, Ingate is qualified to integrate its SIParator E-SBC with the Aastra MX-ONE and Aastra 700 multimedia communication platforms,” reported Ciccatelli.

The reported quoted Ingate’s general manager Martin Feuk: “Enabling teleworkers to use the corporate VoIP, video, and all Unified and Collaborative Communications (UCC) applications from their home office, while on the road etc., is a tremendous competitive advantage."

In some other news, TMCnet contributor Madhubanti Rudra reported that Bosch Security Systems and GreenPeak have forged a strategic alliance to deliver a complete end-to-end solution for MSOs seeking to complement their four play business offering comprising telephone, cable TV, Internet access and cell phone services. The bundling of the new service with existing ones will allow these MSOs to increase their average revenue per user and reduce subscriber churn.

Meanwhile, U.K. based Interner telephony provider, Telappliant, unveiled its VoIP 'Best Price Promise' to match any comparable quote and to also beat it by 5 percent – without compromise to quality. The Telappliant Best Price Promise applies to its core services which include hosted telephony services, call plans, SIP trunking, VoIP phone numbers and VoIP number porting.
