Ericsson (News
- Alert) is one of the world’s leading telecoms and this week the company strengthened its standing with the purchase of the OSS and BSS company ConceptWave (News - Alert). Ericsson has been attempting to make itself more of a telecom that can reach into different areas of the telecom business. The company has been doing quite a bit of expanding over the last few months, all as a way to become a little more relevant in the minds of the enterprise class.
Ericsson has been adding business tools such as the iPECSIP Call Recording suite. The company has also shown the ability to work closely with other companies, when they aren’t able to outright acquire them, such as their partnership with CTIGroup. The acquisition of ConceptWave significantly improves Ericsson in the area of operations and business management when it comes to telecoms.
Elisabetta Romano, Head of OSS in Business Unit Support Solutions, Ericsson, commented on the purchase saying, "There is a trend towards more personalization of services where end-users want to purchase communications services meeting their individual needs. This puts high demand on telecom operators to be able to offer flexible product bundles with customized pricing packages. In this area ConceptWave's solutions and employees' expertise adds considerable value to Ericsson's portfolio."
ConceptWave is a Toronto based OSS/BSS company that has 170 employees. While there haven’t been a whole lot of details about how the absorption of ConceptWave will impact the smaller company but it is believed that all 170 employees will be accepted under the Ericsson umbrella. The deal is being reported as being an all cash deal, which means a quicker closing of the agreement and a smoother transition for both companies.
Zarar Rana, President and CEO of ConceptWave, also commented on the sale in a statement saying "Our products and solutions help maximize telecom operators' assets through the creation, implementation and automation of service fulfillment processes for new and differentiated offerings. Joining Ericsson today adds great value to ConceptWave, as we become part of their global organization and leverage their industry-leading technology and services competence."
