Ingate Systems and ThinkTel Now Fully Interoperable

Compared to the United States, Canada is something of a fledgling when it comes to SIP trunking. The technology has been slow to catch on, making it difficult for new service providers to start up and begin offering SIP-enabled telephony services, as so often happens in the competitive US market. Slowly but surely, however, no doubt due to the visible success of such services south of the border, demand has in fact begun to rise in Canada. Noticing the growing interest in SIP trunking, ThinkTel (News - Alert), a Canadian-owned business telecommunications provider catering to SMBs, enterprise, and wholesale customers, has been working to establish a strong foothold in the largely young market.

This is what spurred Ingate Systems (News - Alert), a developer of secure enterprise session boarder controllers (E-SBCs) and firewalls, to pursue interoperability testing with the Canadian service provider. According to Ingate Systems President Steven Johnson (News - Alert), Canadian businesses have begun to catch onto the benefits to SIP trunking, and they are increasingly asking their service providers to provide them with these types of capabilities, making now the perfect time to expand Ingate’s relationships in the country. ThinkTel’s size, longevity, and demonstrated interest in SIP trunking, therefore, made it a very appropriate partner for the company, Johnson told TMCnet.

Just this week, the two companies announced that Ingate’s SIParator E-SBCs and ThinkTel’s SIP trunking services have successfully completely full interoperability testing. This interoperability means that ThinkTel can now deploy its SIP trunks without the uncertainty of interoperability issues between other on-premises equipment and its service. ThinkTel can address any customer with any sort of PBX (News - Alert) – be it ShorTel, Mitel, Avaya or otherwise – with Ingate at the edge, and be assured that it will communicate properly within a ThinkTel network.

“Ingate’s solutions help us to ensure that customers realize the many benefits of SIP trunking,” said Dave Damer, founder and president of ThinkTel. “The SIParator has a long track record of proven deployments. For us, Ingate solves a number of deployment issues and expands the reach of our solutions.”

The ultimate winner, of course, as Johnson explained, is the customer, the enterprise.

“With this interoperability,” he said, “Ingate and ThinkTel can now say with confidence and certainty that SIP can work for any enterprise that wants to adopt it, without question.”

Johnson added that other service providers, too, can benefit from the Ingate SIParator E-SBC. Ingate welcomes any service provider interested in making their SIP trunking service work with any PBX or other potential customers, large or small, to contact them and complete the same interoperability testing to simplify deployments and ensure security and performance.
