When it comes to keeping your telephone bill in check, Vonage’s free mobile apps can be of great help. In addition of letting you make high quality free domestic and international calls, the Vonage mobile app also lets you send free text messages, share photos and video chat with other Vonage users using iPhone or any Android phones. Although there are many VoIP providers in the market, Vonage has been able to differentiate itself from the competition through consistent investment in technology innovation and development.
Given its investments in technologies, it is only justified that the company would seek to protect its pioneering VoIP phone calling technologies from infringement. A number of times, the company has experienced set backs in patent infringement cases. But this time, everything went in Vonage’s favor and it has been granted three new patents by the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
The recently obtained patents--- U.S. Pat. No. 8,571,060, U.S. Pat. No. 8,571,191 and the U.S. Pat. No. 8,553,570---are expected to help the company to improve its overall service quality, the officials said in a statement.
The U.S. Pat. No. 8,571,060, entitled, "Systems and Methods for Terminating Telephony Communications to Mobile Telephony Devices," is Vonages’ first patented technology that relates to the company’s international roaming solution. The technology can be used to activate a call forwarding feature on mobile phones for the international travelers. The technology is aimed at reducing the cost of incoming calls for the international travelers.
The “Method and Apparatus for New Subscriber Access to Telephony Features” technology is protected by the U.S. Pat. No. 8,571,191. This technology is intended to facilitate an automatic distribution of Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) services on a variety of platforms and communications devices.
This technology will help recognize the attributes of different devices and enable the user to download the most compatible version of the app by providing a link to the suitable version.
U.S. Pat. No. 8,553,570, "Systems and Methods of Routing IP Telephony Packet Communications," covers advanced call routing techniques that ensure the path for a call meets specific requirements including call quality, encryption and conferencing. The patented technology is aimed at improving call quality.
“We are pleased that the Patent Office has issued the '060 patent, our first patent relating to our international roaming solution. This patent, along with additional pending applications related to our roaming solution, will be integral in protecting our investment in technology innovation and development. The '191 and '570 patents also cover valuable features that reflect our continued focus on mobile VoIP and service quality improvements,” chief legal officer of Vonage Kurt M. Rogers noted in a statement.
Vonage has been granted 12 patents in total and filed more than 80 patent applications in 2013. The company now has 30 U.S. patents and more than 200 U.S. patent applications pending, along with many foreign patents and pending applications in jurisdictions worldwide.
