No More Analog Phone System: babyTEL Promotes VoIP 'Triple Play'

babyTEL, a Canadian VoIP and Internet fax provider, recently announced a service it's calling the VoIP "Triple Play (News - Alert)."

With Triple Play, organizations can migrate all of their communications to the Internet. This transition would mean no more standard analog phone lines for telephone, fax or modem-based devices.

Cable companies coined the term "triple play" when they began offering telephone, Internet and cable television over a single connection. Now, babyTEL has co-opted the term to encourage companies to take advantage of Internet communications.

Earlier this year, babyTEL unveiled encryption for T.38 Internet fax transmission. By encrypting both T.38 signaling and RTP transmission, babyTEL delivers communications that fulfill both HIPAA and Sarbanes-Oxley privacy rules.

Back in the spring, babyTEL partnered with Xerox Canada to enable Fax-over-IP (FoIP) for traditional fax machines. In other words, companies that use babyTEL's FoIP T.38 SIP trunking can use their regular fax machine to send Internet faxes instead of communicating over traditional phone lines.

Companies can also mobile devices connect to babyTEL's network by using the ROAMbaby app for Android (News - Alert) and iOS. Instead of draining expensive mobile phone minutes on carrier plans, employees can connect to babyTEL with Wi-Fi or 3G and place unlimited free calls to the U.S. or Canada.

Thanks to Triple Play, retailers can now use babyTEL to send POS transactions online. By pairing babyTEL's Internet connection with a Web-based POS solution, retailers can update inventory in real time, save transaction data on a server and backup data several times per day. They can also make the POS mobile so that employees can process payments away from the traditional cash register.

"Businesses of all sizes can migrate all of their traditional telephone traffic onto their Internet connection," said babyTEL CEO Stephen Dorsey (News - Alert). "Whether it's a fax call, a voice call or even a POS device for credit cards, babyTEL can connect them so that the Internet is now the transmission network.”
