SPIRIT DSP (News - Alert), a provider of voice and video over IP (VVoIP) software engines, recently introduced a new VVoIP software product called TeamSpirit Transcoding Server.

Specifically designed for service providers, telcos, unified communications and video conferencing providers, the new TeamSpirit Transcoding server offers efficient interoperability amid different real-time voice and video communication tools and services.

This new server also promises to bring high-performance transcoding to multiple bitrates for adaptive streaming. Currently the video transcoding for H.263, H.264, H.265 and VP8 is delivered, as well as the voice transcoding for SPIRIT IP-MR (IETF RFC 6262), G.711, G.722, G.723.1, G.726, G.729AB, G.722.1, GSM AMR-NB, GSM AMR-WB, iLBC, SILK, is available.

Also, the new server is backed with TeamSpirit Voice Engine technology that is being used in SPIRIT’s client-side products to sensibly control a great number of communication parameters in the IP part of the call, and secures the highest HD voice quality, even under adverse network conditions. The newly released TeamSpirit Transcoding runs on regular PC servers which are very much cost efficient and could be easily procured and bunched together, says the company.

“Google (News - Alert) pushes hard for its VP8/VP9 video codec, while Microsoft, Apple and Cisco, together with all the telcos, widely use the H.264 standard, so there is no seamless video interoperability on the net today,” SPIRIT DSP Chairman Andrew Sviridenko said. “Our useful product helps to solve this problem, as TeamSpirit Transcoding Server software delivers cost-effective and seamless interoperability between multiple popular video and voice platforms on the net today.”

This new TeamSpirit Transcoding can be beneficial for users as there is no requirement to pay an ITU-T codec royalty for every subscriber of the service. Since an ITU-T codec is only being used on the server side, millions of subscribers convert to only thousands of concurrent server connections and a service provider can reduce its patent royalty expense up to 20 times.

Since SPIRIT DSP's inception in 1992, the company has become a global brand in HD quality voice and video over IP software.
