Mobile satellite communications company Thuraya (News - Alert) Telecommunications has launched its first dedicated vehicular IP broadband terminal, Thuraya IP Voyager.
Designed and manufactured by Hughes Network Systems, a provider of broadband satellite solutions, Thuraya IP Voyager is a cost-effective, high-quality satellite terminal designed for a wide range of mission-critical operations such as border patrol, defense, and disaster response in areas inadequately served by terrestrial networks. The terminal helps users to collaborate reliably and efficiently using video, data, and VoIP to achieve mission critical tasks.
Specifically targeted for end-users in the government, oil and gas, media, and relief sectors, it is claimed to be the only terminal available in the market capable of achieving streaming IP rates of up to 384 kbps as well as user-definable asymmetric streaming.
“Reliable connectivity and mobility are essential for users who need to communicate with their field teams and to file reports while on-the-move. The Thuraya IP Voyager broadens our Land IP portfolio and is part of our strategy to give end-users the power of choice when it comes to having high-quality, reliable connections at competitive prices, no matter where they are,” Randy Roberts, vice president of Innovation at Thuraya said, in a statement.
The Thuraya IP Voyager also comes with a built-in Wi-Fi access point with 802.11b/g/n technology and WPA2 encryption. Additionally, there are four Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) ports which can help users to connect multiple wired devices.
Thuraya’s satellites deliver reliable L-band coverage across Asia, Australia, Africa, Central Asia, Europe and the Middle East. Its network management uses Dynamic Resource Allocation to automatically assign capacity in high congestion areas such as during mission-critical deployments, disasters or conflict.
The new Thuraya Voyager IP will be made available for all Thuraya Service Partners immediately.
