Acuity Technologies and Digium Team Up for Improved Hosted VoIP

Digium (News - Alert), the inventor, sponsor and maintainer of the Asterisk open-source Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) software, announced on February 26 that they were joining forces with Acuity Technologies to expand the capabilities of their hosted PBX (News - Alert) networks. Acuity Technologies is a telecommunications master agency from Tampa, Florida, and is now on board the Digium Cloud Agent Program as their newest Master Agent. Acuity brings experience with management and support for cloud-based services, which makes Digium’s product more reliable and robust.

Hosted VoIP services are an excellent alternative telephone solution for businesses and call centers of all sizes because they eliminate the hassle of having to own or operate an on-site Private Branch Exchange (PBX). Because VoIP uses the Internet to route phone calls instead of traditional phone lines, hosted VoIP providers can simply allow their customers to use their PBX instead of having to buy one and maintain it. For businesses, this means having all of the features of an advanced business-class phone system at an affordable price, and without needing to dedicate space or IT resources to a PBX system.

The Asterisk platform allows VoIP providers to convert almost any computer into a fully-functioning IP-PBX, for use with either hosted VoIP providers that sell the services to other companies, or companies who are able to dedicate IT resources to create their own VoIP-compatible IP-PBX network. Digium’s Switchvox (News - Alert) Cloud Unified Communications (UC) phone system makes it easy to maximize processing power of IP-PBX systems, and thus increasing commissions for providers.
