As companies grow, they almost invariably face the need of a reshuffle in the upper echelon of the management in order to invite fresh take on their growth and expansion strategies. Seemingly guided by this need, GENBAND, a multimedia and cloud communications specialist, has recently announced a new strategic appointment for Canada, presently one of the most important markets for GENBAND. As part of this move, Dave Shier, who has recently been serving as senior VP of Sales for the Asia Pacific (APAC) region, has now been trusted with the responsibility of leading the sales team in Canada. In his new role of senior VP for sales for Canada, Shier will be reporting directly to GENBAND’s president of global sales, Mark Pugerude.
GENBAND’s smart network solutions are used by the telecommunication service providers all over the globe. By supporting multimedia voice, data and video sessions and fixed-mobile unified communications applications, GENBAND’s technology helps improve the performance of the IP networks. A chunk of GENBAND’s key telecommunications and cable operators clients are based in Canada. The company’s Canadian clientele include some big ticket brands Bell Aliant, TELUS, Videotron and Tbaytel. Approximately 25 percent of its global employee base is located in Ottawa and across the rest of the country. No wonder the company has recently separated Canadian operation from its larger American operations and identified Canada as a distinct territory and area of focus for the company. As part of its commitment to the Canadian market, GENBAND recently opened a state-of-the-art Canadian R&D Center of Excellence in Ottawa’s High-Tech park area.
Given this growing prominence of Canada in GENBAND’s growth plan, the company was in the need of a new leader to spearhead its sales in the country. The company was on the lookout for a sales leader, who has ample, in-depth knowledge about the country’s telecommunication market. Shier’s career profile indicates his association with Canadian telecommunications market. In the span of his career, he reportedly spent several years working with major Canadian telecommunications service providers. In this capacity he built and led sales and business teams across diverse territories throughout Canada. It seems, his Canadian origin has also come into play while selecting him for the role.
“Canada is such an important market for GENBAND that we recently separated it from the Americas to make it a single area of focus. GENBAND has a long, rich history in the Canadian market and some of our largest service provider customers are based in this region. Dave Shier’s experience and familiarity with the market will assist us tremendously in capitalizing on the growth opportunities in Canada,” Pugerude explained in a statement.
