Intel Adds to Android Showcase with magicJack App

Intel’s (News - Alert) Android Showcase just got a little spicier with the addition of a new mobile calling app, magicApp, from magicJack VocalTec, Ltd., a cloud-based communications company.  The app was launched as a companion to the company’s award-winning VoIP device and has apparently been a great hit with almost seven million registered users.

The app is designed to run on smartphones and tablets and currently offers free calls to U.S., Canadian landlines, mobile devices, and also to any magicJack number worldwide. Users can make calls using their home phone, computer or mobile devices.

Users first need to download the app and then open an account on their mobile devices. They are then assigned a Magic Jack phone number. By dialling that number they can make and receive calls without using minutes or needing a VoIP plan.

magicApp also allows users to securely access stored contacts in their devices so that they can make calls fast and easily. Users without a current magicJack account can also use the service.  It’s easy to stay connected anywhere with this app.

The Intel Software Partner Program also gives magicJack developers access to Intel tools, code and support to ensure that the app’s performance on Android (News - Alert) devices is maximized.

“By working with Intel and optimizing our solution for Android devices with the x86 processor, we’re able to provide a crystal clear voice experience that continuously improves. In adopting Intel’s latest mobile technology, our developers have gained valuable insight to help ensure our new, next generation magicApp will run smoothly upon release in a couple weeks,” noted Greg Wood, chief information officer of magicJack.

Unlike many other apps, magicJack allows users to port their existing phone numbers and avoid the hassle of having to inform a hundred people about the changed number. Oftentimes, mobile calls are dropped indoors, but with the magicJack app, users are said to be assured of crystal clear voice quality calls anytime, anywhere.

In an era where calling apps are calling the shots, the magicJack app, already quite a hit, can easily hold its own against the competition.
