General Dynamics C4 Systems (News - Alert), a company that provides cyber defense technologies and products, recently announced that it has delivered the 4000th Sectera vIPer Universal Secure Phone (News - Alert) to the U.S. Department of State. General Dynamics delivered the first Sectera vIPer Universal Secure Phone to the department in 2007.

Interoperable with all U.S. government secure phones, U.S. Department of Defense networks and commercial VoIP phones, the vIPer will replace Secure Terminal Equipment (STE) phones to provide secured voice and data communications from the Top Secret-level and below for U.S. government personnel located in the U.S. and internationally. These simple-to-install phones use less power and ensure high quality voice and low SATCOM latency.

The vIPer allows U.S. Department of State to easily switch between making end-to-end secure and non-secure calls on Voice-over IP and analog networks, eliminating the need for multiple desktop phones. The vIPer is the only VoIP phone certified to protect information classified Top Secret/SCI and below over commercial wired networks.

"The vIPer phones are easy-to-use and deliver secure voice and data connectivity, with unprecedented dependability, for department personnel worldwide," stated Chris Marzilli, president of General Dynamics C4 Systems. "With a touch of a button, calls can transition from unencrypted to encrypted and secure, immediately 'hardening' the communications network from a call's origin to its destination, from one office to another, or across continents."

Recently, Sectera vIPer Universal Secure Phone was selected by the Federal Bureau of Investigation to replace outdated Secure Terminal Equipment phones. Delivery of the vIPer secure phones to the FBI will begin during the second quarter of 2014. The officials from FBI said the solution will help the agency “improve desktop communications with a secure phone that provides more efficient ways for agents and their colleagues to communicate and collaborate worldwide.”
