Competing with other international bidders, Northrop Grumman’s (News - Alert) U.K.-based air traffic management systems subsidiary Park Air Systems has just won a plump deal from The Airports Authority of India (AAI), a body responsible for managing civil aviation infrastructure in India. The contract will allow the company to reinforce its presence in India's rapidly growing civil aviation sector.

Post MH 370 incident, the whole world seems to have awakened to the need of tighter, more intelligent air traffic surveillance. AAI too has joined the rest of the world in an air traffic modernization drive. It is going to leverage the latest Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) communications technology for upgrading its infrastructure and

Northrop Grumman is going to be the technology partner of AAI in this initiative aimed at strengthening its ground-to-air communications.

Park Air Systems has been contracted to supply a comprehensive range of communication systems comprising 500 pairs of Park Air T6 air traffic control (ATC) transmitters and receivers radios, the Park Air S4 remote control units, filters, multicouplers and antennas. Integrated into the AAI’s IP network, the systems will deliver dependable ATC communications.  The equipment will be using the internationally agreed VoIP protocol ED-137 to stay connected to each other.

AAI and Park Air have been long standing partners with the former using Park Air’s ATC communications equipment for over six decades. Not only in India, Park Air's advanced IP radio networks are being used all over the world to deliver dependable ATC communications.

“AAI has benefited from Park Air ATC communications equipment for six decades and with this significant order, we can maintain our long-standing presence in India's rapidly growing civil aviation sector. We are pleased to be involved from the outset in AAI's plans to roll out systems employing next-generation technologies, particularly Park Air's advanced IP radio networks that are delivering dependable ATC communications across the Americas, Europe and Asia,”  managing director of Northrop Grumman Park Air Systems Charles Houseago noted in a statement.
