CALNET 3 is an initiative established by the California Department of Technology Statewide Technology Procurement Division to provide the next generation of telecommunications services to the state of California’s local departments and agencies.

The program involves contracts that are awarded in three different phases. As part of the first phase, back in November, Integra, a provider of fiber-based, carrier-grade networking, communications and technology solutions, received a contract for voice and data services. Now in the second phase, the company is again selected for its high-bandwidth Ethernet Services, Private networking services and High Speed Internet services.  This will be made available to California government agencies and departments, as well as public sector and non-profit customers, through the CALNET 3 procurement process.

Integra is roped in for the following CALNET 3 categories:

  • Metropolitan Area Network (MAN) Ethernet
  • SONET Ring Connectivity
  • SONET Point-to-Point Connectivity
  • Managed Internet Services

"The second award from CALNET 3 is further validation of Integra's proven success serving state and local governments with a full range of voice, data and networking solutions," Kevin O'Hara, chief executive officer at Integra, said in a statement.

"We're pleased to be a part of this innovative, forward-thinking technology initiative and look forward to the mission-critical work of supporting California state agencies and those whom they serve," O’Hara added.

Integra's privately owned network connects customers to 6,400 miles of long-haul fiber optic infrastructure and 3,000 miles of metro fiber across 35 cities in 11 states.  Its Ethernet-over-copper infrastructure extends ubiquitous Ethernet access to more than 460,000 business locations. It has significant fiber network assets throughout California, with dense metro fiber networks in Sacramento and the San Francisco Bay Area linked by long haul backbones across the state.

In another announcement made recently, Integra confirmed its alliance to MiCTA, a nationwide group purchasing organization that offers communications and network technology solutions to members in the healthcare, nonprofit and education sectors. Now, MiCTA customers throughout the U.S. will enjoy easy access to Integra's service suite through MiCTA's procurement model.
