The old days of speaking over a telephone connected to a network of wires are already almost completely forgotten since the advent of the cell phone. Yet, the days of cell phones as we know them, connecting to wireless telephone towers, may also be moving into the past. Voice of Internet Protocol (VoIP) solutions like SIP Trunking are looking to take over telephony services. This week brought in news of new SIP Trunking developments, along with some recognition for SIP Trunking companies.

First we had news from Tata Communications. The company has announced that they have developed a new version of their Unified Communications (News - Alert) platform, jamvee. Built upon Tata Communications global tier 1 network, jamvee provides businesses with an agnostic, secure Unified Communications service. The new update will bring the ability collaborate via any combination of audio, video or messaging to businesses. In an act of collaboration that fits well with a service meant to help businesses better collaborate, Tata Communications worked on the new version of jamvee alongside technology partners Acano and Synergy (News - Alert) Sky.

Another company working to bring VoIP to businesses, SIPTalk, announced a new platform this week. A cloud-based PBX system, OnPBX has been developed with small businesses in mind. The service is meant to cut the major expense of phone costs for businesses, and provide better communications to customers. OnPBX will run a centrally controlled phone service filled with features, at a low cost of $25.95 a month. Using OnPBX with their own VoIP equipment, businesses will be able to lower calling costs, yet still be able to make calls across the world.

Around for 12 years and considered one of the dominant forces in SIP Trunking, Ingate had some amazing news this week. Ingate has released a new WebRTC and SIP PBX companion. Using Ingate's new companion, PBX and Unified Communications vendors will be able to integrate WebRTC features into their own solutions. Ingate hopes that the enabling of WebRTC with SIP PBX solutions will simplify the addition of video communications to different solutions. Ingate also unveiled its Q-Turn technology  which will bring real-time communications, and bridge secure quality access between the enterprise LAN and the World Wide Web for their E-SBCs.

Businesses using SIP Trunking still need to get their hands on VoIP equipment to use services like those we've seen this week. This week, Grandstream Networks (News - Alert) unveiled their newest addition to their Android IP Video Phone family, the GXV3275 IP Video Phone. The GXV3275 IP Video Phone combines a 6-line IP video phone with a multi-platform conference solution all on an Android tablet. It comes with integrated Bluetooth, gigabit ports, a built-in web browser, integrated WiFi, HD audio and PoE. The GXV3275 IP Video Phone serves as an excellent tool for communication, conferencing and productivity that would help any business looking to harness the power of VoIP.

Two providers of VoiP and communication services had cause to celebrate this week.

Mitel (News - Alert), coming off a victory from being named one of the top 5 business VoiP providers for 2014 by Voxilla.com, received further recognition of their excellent business services by Gartner, Inc. Gartner has moved Mitel up in their Magic Quadrant for Contact Center Infrastructure from Niche to the Challenger quadrant.

TDS Telecom, a provider of both business and personal VoIP services, also received recognition this week. As a member of Polycom (News - Alert), Inc.'s Polycom Choice Partner program, TDS Telecom has been honored with receiving Platinum status. This is the fifth year in the row that TDS Telecom has been given Platinum status, awarded due to TDS Telecom's excellence in providing customers with important products and their global achievements in the VoIP phone solution market.

That is all the news for this week. Have a great weekend, and make sure to check back for more news on SIP Trunking innovations and developments following the weekend.
