Cisco Embraces Phybridge PoLRE Switches for Telephony Platform and Endpoint Solution

Computer telephony integration (CTI), as the name suggests, involves the interaction between telephone and computer systems. CTI (News - Alert) in its simplest form allows the placing of phone calls through computers. This is the concept behind one of CTIs most used implementations, VoIP, a system used to place voice calls using an internet connection. However, the integration of telephony and computers has also more advanced implementations as in the case of call centers with computers routing voice calls automatically.

Those migrating to an all-IP Telephony platform can enhance their communication experience in ways not possible using a traditional phone service; they can transmit voice and video via the Internet, can utilize a vast variety of features and are able to support remote users as needed. A robust IP platform can be setup and utilized in a variety of ways, assimilating PC-to-Phone (News - Alert) calls or Phone-to-phone over IP, for example, to establish connections between two endpoints.

Cisco has teamed up with Phybridge Inc., a provider of innovative voice over IP solutions infrastructure, to give its customers and business partners a way to eliminate infrastructure barriers that prevent them from adopting IP telephone systems. The solution entails the use of switches for which Cisco (News - Alert) is now giving part numbers: the Phybridge 24 and 48 Port PoLRE (Power over Long Reach Ethernet) switches. This will “enable enterprises with legacy TDM phone systems or partially-deployed IP systems to migrate to an all-Cisco IP Telephony and Unified Communications (News - Alert) platform,” Phybridge explains.

Phybridge Inc. reported in a post on its website this week that, up until today, infrastructure barriers have stopped many Cisco customers from migrating to an all-IP Telephony platform. Oliver Emmanuel, President and Founder of Phybridge (News - Alert), says that the relationship with Cisco will enable them to provide their award-winning Phybridge PoLRE switches that will offer integration to both IP and TDM endpoints.

Before Phybridge introduced its switches to the market, many of Cisco customers were unable to have full deployment of an all-Cisco IP Telephony; these customers were mostly unable to enjoy all the benefits of new unified communications platforms.

The only solution they were given, in fact, was a hybrid deployment maintaining digital endpoints that would allow new systems to work with the existing infrastructure, and in accordance with the local area network requirements.

The switches effectively transform the legacy infrastructure in a PoE network where a single pair of CAT3 wires delivers Ethernet and Power. Many are the benefits: from a simpler network to manage to a more secure infrastructure to better services and consistency in the quality of the voice lines. Leveraging the business existing voice infrastructure means also that the cost of adopting newer and more powerful technology is significantly lower. This is good news for businesses that can also be fitted with the new system very quickly thanks to reduced planning and implementation time requirements and an easy plug-and-play deployment.

Today, Cisco customers who were once reluctant to adopt IP telephony because of infrastructure barriers, have a Telephony Platform and Endpoint solution that allows them not to worry about being forced to compromise with analog gateways and endpoints. Consumers can opt to upgrade their voice to IP and set up CTI ports on a Cisco IP SoftPhone with CallManager as an integral part of Cisco Architecture for Voice, Video and Integrated Data (AVVID) and as an all-in-one IP Cisco solution.
