SIP Trunking Week in Review: Vitelity, TCG, Infonetics, Vonage

It’s the end of another week, and time to take a look at some of the top SIP trunking news.

Vitelity Communications won a best of show award at TMC’s (News - Alert) ITEXPO West in Las Vegas. Vitelity executive vice president Scott Navratil credited the company’s diverse product list for the win.

“We have fantastic fax solutions, we have mobile solutions, hosting solutions,” he said.

Another major telecom master agent, Telecom Consulting Group, was also at ITEXPO (News - Alert). The company claims over 600 agent partners and relationships with nearly every major telecom carrier in the U.S. TCG credits its success to taking a “hands-on” approach with its agents to sign deals with carriers and IT companies.

ABP Tech, a distributor of IT products, was yet another attendee at ITEXPO. The company offers what it calls “best of breed” products, including IP phones, including the DrayTek Vigor 2925n plus and an INCOM Wi-Fi phone.

If a new report by Infonetics is any indication, distributors like ABP (News - Alert) will be busy for some time to come. The report predicts that three out of four businesses will have SIP trunking by 2016.

Fonality, a company offering a hybrid on-premises and hosted VoIP solution, received a patent, giving the company an advantage in an increasingly crowded market. Fonality targets companies that already have a significant investment in a PBX (News - Alert) system for its hybrid VoIP platform.

Vonage has been a major player in the VoIP field for a long time, offering low-cost Internet-based phone service to consumers. Now the company is offering an app that allows full use of the service through smartphones. This allows people to make calls using a portable Vonage (News - Alert) number and even make calls between Vonage numbers without going through the phone system. The emerging Wi-Fi calling option is competing with over-the-top apps like Vonage.
