Axiros, a developer of IT device management software, recently announced its newest product, AXESS.snom, which can close a feature gap between PBX (News - Alert)-based enterprise telephony systems and snom phone configuration.

According to Kurt Peterson, the CEO of Axiros, his company has witnessed several complaints from enterprises that their telephony systems were unable to handle the configuration of snom phones. For companies with more than a several dozen phones, it can be more than a hassle to configure their business phones – it can hinder the productivity of the enterprises themselves. To remedy this problem, Axiros created AXESS.snom to give IT teams the power to manage hundreds of snom phones through a central, software-based management platform. Peterson explains more of the situation that led to the creation of this new software package.

“We heard over and over that enterprise telephone systems were not able to implement even basic configuration details in snom phones,” Peterson said. “Starting with simple firmware updates to user-specific settings such as forwarding destinations, speed dials or the headset volume, Axiros’ AXESS.snom closes these feature gaps by configuring the snom phones on behalf of TR-069 and other protocols.”

The announcement continues by stating that the software will allow IT to configure entire business phone setups in just hours. AXESS.snom can manage the firmware in 3xx, 7xx, and 8xx series snom phones and has the ability to provision such phones without IT ever having to physically handle the hardware. It can configure each phone based on instructions contained within CSV files, and it can access an XML-based template engine which will assign individual configurations to specific handsets. Furthermore, the software is able to automate configuration backups and restore phones to previous configurations following any sort of incident.

The most recent news to come from snom is that it has updated its line of 7xx series phones to include a new look and new processors that handle each handset. snom has changed up its line of executives, as well, naming Guido Wohlers as its new chief financial officer in October and Markus Schmitt-Fumian as chief executive in June.

The company said that, with these changes, it expects to extend its international footprint. The recent addition of Axiros software to the global market means that snom could get an additional boost. Both snom and Axiros could benefit from the updates each company has made and grow the footprints of each as a result.
