The virtualization of IT services is allowing organizations to access a wide range of solutions from virtually anywhere at any time.  Whether it is software, platforms, infrastructure or other IT services, this type of accessibility lowers the capital expenditure of traditional on premises solutions as well as the operational costs to maintain them. For organizations that are battling budgetary constraints, such as school districts across the country, the efficiency and cost saving measures hosted solutions provide are welcomed by administrators. One such institution is the Nevada Virtual Academy (NVVA), a charter public school that provides tuition-free K-12 online learning.

The academy selected MegaPath, a provider of managed voice, data, security and cloud services in North America, for reliable connection and calling capabilities to its headquarters and 140 remote teachers and administrators. In addition to the technological advantages MegaPath (News - Alert) offers, the deployment of this technology will also qualify the NVVA for additional $110,000 in e- rate savings.

By helping NVVA meet federal government requirements to qualify for additional e- rate subsidies, it helps it remain operational without the additional costs of traditional voice and data IT solutions.

The challenge for NVVA was to ensure reliable, high-speed broadband connectivity for its administrators and teachers that run the classrooms from their home offices. Additionally, they wanted to eliminate frequent dropped phone calls and avoid resource draining processes to guarantee consistent and dependable communications between teachers, parents and administrative staff, as well as students.

“Prior to partnering with MegaPath, our teachers lost connections during lessons, and we encountered far too many dropped phone calls. Since signing with MegaPath, all of our teachers, including those in our state’s most remote regions, receive the reliable, high-speed connectivity and call quality required to effectively run their classrooms,” said Kirby Okuda, Operations Manager, Nevada Virtual Academy.

The MegaPath hosted voice solution is designed to give end-users a simplified platform with a single no maintenance VoIP system. With features such as visual voicemail and a comprehensive reporting capability and voice administration. The administrators at the academy will be able manage their communication needs with less effort. As a single voice and broadband service provider, MegaPath bills NVVA for more than the140 locations it serves in one invoice.

The result has been an online classroom experience with high performance connectivity and consistent delivery. The accounting department is also breathing a sigh of relief, because it no longer has to process individual expense reports from 140 remote teachers and administrators looking to be reimbursed for their residential Internet services.

Some of the benefits of the hosted VoIP solution MegaPath offers include:

  • No PBX (News - Alert) equipment to buy or lease, and no maintenance contracts or fees for account changes.
  • Over 50 calling features such as Voice Manager, MegaPath Anywhere, visual voicemail, find me / follow me, and many more.
  • Unified communications with chat, presence, softphone, video calling, screen sharing, and SMS texting features with support for desktop, mobile, and tablet devices.
  • High level of reliability with 99.999 percent availability with guaranteed Quality of Service (QoS).
  • Flexible installation options with self-install or fully-managed installation with an onsite technician.
  • SIP Trunking for streamline communications across multiple locations.

“Nevada Virtual Academy is committed to providing high-quality educational opportunities to students across the state of Nevada,” said Craig Young, Chairman and CEO, MegaPath. “We are thrilled that our services are helping the academy give its students a quality, uninterrupted learning experience, while saving money that can be redirected to educational improvements.”

The challenges for school districts across the country have been well documented, and it goes without saying, organizations offering free services face more hurdles. Using IT solutions that simplify their operational procedures while cutting costs is one way they can stay in business as they try to educate everyone.
