CyberData (News - Alert), an OEM design and manufacturing firm specializing in IP Endpoints, Voice over IP (VoIP), Point of Sale (POS) connectivity solutions and POS protocol conversion tools, has added the highly requested capability of paging Polycom (News - Alert) phones to two of the company’s paging devices: the SIP Paging Adapter and the VoIP V3 Paging server.

CyberData’s SIP Paging Adapter is a VoIP endpoint that allows analog paging systems to interface with SIP and Multicast-based audio sources. The device can receive multicast pages from a wide range of industry standard audio sources and phone calls directed to its SIP extension, and now from Polycom phones as well. The SIP Paging Adapter supports two separate SIP extensions: one that passes audio containing one of nine configurable stored pages through to the analog output on a caller’s handset and one that plays a bell audio tone, which can be configured in a night ring group to be used as a night ringer.

The VoIP V3 Paging Server lets users access multiple paging zones in a VoIP network and connect to legacy analog paging systems, all by using a single SIP phone extension. A second extension can again be configured to be used as a night ringer, and the web-based graphical interface lets users set up to 100 paging zones. In addition to recently-launched voice prompting and password control features, CyberData has given the VoIP V3 Paging Server the ability to page Polycom phones.

With this new functionality, Polycom users can simultaneously page the entirety of a paging infrastructure with ease. Furthermore, pages can be sent to CyberData devices and Polycom phones with one press of a button. A variety of legacy and IP paging devices can therefore be integrated onto a single fluid network that greatly eases communication amongst its users.

“Polycom users have been asking for this for a long time,” said Phil Lembo, President and CEO of CyberData. “Being able to provide this feature in our SIP Paging Adapter and VoIP Paging Server meets the needs of countless customers and will make mass notification with Polycom phones much easier.”

CyberData plans to incrementally add the Polycom feature to its entire product line, which includes other paging equipment like SIP speakers and intercoms. Eventually the company hopes for its entire line of SIP-enabled devices to be fully compatible with Polycom technology.
