Business communications product provider Toshiba (News - Alert) America Information Systems recently announced an update to its VIPedge cloud communications service in the form of an update to the administration tool which control it: the Toshiba Enterprise Manager.

The update to VIPedge marks a point in development where users can expect to control their business communications systems entirely through Web browsers from that one administration tool. Enterprise Manager can now manage both cloud-based and on-premise telephony setups, and businesses that utilize tools both in the cloud and on their premises can be sure that the single interface will be familiar for control of all the tools in their communications ecosystems.

Brian Metherell (News - Alert), the vice president and general manager of Telecommunication Systems Division at Toshiba America Information Systems, commented in his company's latest announcement about the Enterprise Manager's ability to tackle both types of UC setups.

“Toshiba's Enterprise Manager gives system administrators an intuitive system admin tool that streamlines the programming of Toshiba's cloud and on-premises business telephone solutions,” Metherell said. “This creates a consistent and familiar user experience for any deployment type, even across a hybrid network.”

Toshiba announced the launch of its VIPedge application service, which brings messaging and UC services to businesses as a service, in October 2014. At launch and still to this latest announcement, VIPedge can work in tandem with the established IPedge UC package, which is similar in capability but is meant to operate on a business's premise. Enterprise Manager can now bring those two setups together.

Toshiba is stressing the consistency of its product with this latest update. There should be no gaps between the type of service and administration its clients will receive and administer when comparing cloud and home-based services. Any companies that may have wanted to use some of their IPedge tools from the cloud, perhaps for more flexibility or lower costs, should now have no qualms about making that transition while retaining the tools they prefer to operate in a traditional manner. The Enterprise Manager can make administration of both ends simple and familiar and attempts to give businesses a consistent look at their entire UC lineups.

This update represents choice for Toshiba's clients because it can give them peace of mind when it comes to mixing and matching the ways in which their UC tools are administered. Beyond that, it should also make it easier for IT teams to troubleshoot any problems with their UC system because they can begin the process of discovery from any browser with access to the Internet.
