Network and communications hardware provider ADTRAN (News - Alert) recently announced that it has received Innovation Network interoperability certification for its NetVanta switch portfolio from IP telephone and VoIP phone systems manufacturer ShoreTel (News - Alert).

The pairing of these two companies generates value to product resellers, managed service providers, and Internet operators by providing them with the tools they need to complete the chain of service from one end to the other. This includes session border controllers (SBCs) that handle the provision of VoIP calls and Ethernet switches such as NetVanta which can manage the connection of a number of VoIP phones at once.

ADTRAN points out that it is the only partner in the ShoreTel Innovation Network to be certified from end to end. It has everything from SBCs to switches, and Chad Horton, the manager of innovation and network services at ShoreTel, points out that the full set of devices can help clients guarantee product interoperability.

“The ShoreTel Innovation Network guarantees our partners seamless interoperability and cutting-edge capabilities as they build and deploy hardware, software, and services,” Horton said. “It’s exciting to add another market-leading ADTRAN solution to our Innovation Network. These additions allow partners to access best-in-class technology that is easy to manage and meets our high standards for customer satisfaction.”

The NetVanta line is unique in that ADTRAN has developed it with VoIP in mind. Development teams manufacture the switches to make sure that high voice quality comes standard and that dropped calls are infrequent. The goal of their development is to provide clients with control over their own voice networks in a way that maintains quality while also making setup and troubleshooting easy. For resellers, an ease of setup adds value to their sales because installation teams can have a client online quickly and without hassle. Furthermore, resellers are able to provide customers with consistent, accurate price quotes and device deployment procedures because both ADTRAN and ShoreTel are working toward the same end.

This certification is but one in a line for ADTRAN. Although it may not be unique on its own, this and every other added certification only builds on the portfolio of cooperation that the two companies have built together. They and their partners all stand to gain from this certification and would likely invite a continuing trend.
