Use of Voxbone Virtual Phone Numbers Allows Libon to Expand Service Area

Orange (News - Alert) announced recently that its Libon mobile app would begin using virtual local numbers supplied by Voxbone. This will allow Libon to expand its coverage area while enjoying the simplicity of working with a single carrier.

Brussels-based Voxbone facilitates telecommunication through voice services that run from the cloud. By supplying mobile, toll-free, and local phone numbers to cloud communications providers, no customer need be constrained geographically by a local phone number. Landline or mobile calls going into a Voxbone (News - Alert) phone number are converted to VoIP by a gateway, sent to the nearest Voxbone POP, and then to the customer data center.

Paris-based Orange S.A. is an international telecom that was formerly a government-owned utility. It provides landline and mobile phone, Internet, and television consumers. With over 150,000 employees and $43 billion in market capitalization, it ranks in the top 10 percent of the Forbes Global 2000 list.

Libon is a VoIP service much like Skype (News - Alert) that users access through an Android or iOS app. Users can call friends or family, including those not on Libon, at affordable rates using Libon Out. Unlimited free calls can be made to other Libon users.

In an arrangement similar to prepaid cell phone service, users can purchase Libon Out packs in blocks ranging from 10 minutes to 400 minutes. These minutes allow outgoing calls to be made to mobile or landline phones.

A cursory glance at some user reviews on the Google (News - Alert) Play store for the Libon app shows some customers are unhappy about Libon Out not covering their area. It would be speculative to say that this is the reason Orange went with Voxbone to get more local access numbers, or that there is even a correlation; most reviews are positive about Libon. However, it does expand Libon’s coverage and the addition of Voxbone’s numbers is bound to make many unhappy customers change to happy ones.
