With so many communication options available in the market place, both individual users and organizations are looking for all-inclusive platforms without complications or compatibility issues. One of the ways service providers are delivering on this point is by supplying hosted communication solutions. In order to make this possible, these service providers need appliances that can deliver multiple value added services (VAS) customers need today. XOP Networks, a company that specializes in simplifying the transition of value added services from legacy circuit switched networks to VoIP based packet switched networks, has announced that its Universal Service Node (USN) can now run virtualized instances on VMware’s ESXi, Microsoft’s (News - Alert) Hyper-V and Citrix’s XenServers.

The company stated its customers prefer virtualized conference bridge delivery because it allows them to use their own servers. This type of flexibility gives organizations the ability to quickly introduce products to market, move their virtual machines to a new host without application outages and carry out maintenance upgrades without any downtime.

The USN platform provides multiple applications supporting audio conferencing, Web conferencing, mass notification, visual voicemail, one number with find-me and enhanced Firebar services. These VAS applications along with SIP/VoIP networks are now available in virtual instances.

By delivering multiple VAS application on a single platform, service providers can see savings of 75 percent of CAPEX and 50 percent on OPEX (News - Alert), this according to the company. Operators and enterprises no longer have to deploy the traditional one application, one platform format. The application can be licensed individually and be configured to either share a given number of ports or have dedicated number of ports per application.

The platform allows for great control over the applications with configurations that give administrators different priority levels when sharing the ports. The XOP Networks’ USN can scale from 24 ports to 16,000 ports and all services can be accessed via VoTDM and/or VoIP ports or both. It supports all relevant interfaces on the TDM and the VoIP side, and it can be deployed in North America as well as in other countries that follow CCITT/European signaling standards.

New services can be added and customers can request customization to meet the needs of their organizations. Using a Web-based administrative interface, individual services and associated subscriber accounts can be managed.

“SIP trunking along with enhancements in virtualization technology has set the stage for the next generation method of delivery of Value Added Service platforms. To date we have successfully deployed our SIP based Audio Conference Bridge, and other VAS application software on a number of virtual machines available from different manufacturers,” said Sudhir Gupta, XOP Networks’ CEO.
