With the holiday weekend gone, and all of us back to work in the fullest of senses, session initiation protocol (SIP) trunking is still a big part of a lot of thoughts out there. More companies are realizing the value of getting away from the old models of communication and stepping up to new value, and that means plenty of new developments in the SIP trunking field. So with a new weekend on hand, let's take a step back and check out the wider view of the market with our Week in Review coverage!

First we had a look at click-based dialing, and the kind of impact it could have on sales operations. It's well known that sales is a numbers game, so removing the need to dial a phone could step up the number of sales calls actually made. Innitel Telecom took a look at this concept, and tried to quantify just how slowly a call center works when it's only using employee dialing. The results proved surprisingly telling, and showed big impact by removing employee dialing.

Next we had a look at HeyWire, which landed a slot on AlwaysOn's Global 250. Landing such a slot shows that HeyWire is a leader in the field of mobile customer engagement, with a particular focus on five key areas: commercialization, innovation, market potential, media buzz, and stakeholder value. HeyWire offers a means to bring text messaging to business numbers, allowing an easier way to get in contact on several fronts from contact center agent consoles to mobile devices and beyond.

VirtualPBX stepped in next, landing a major new award from TMC (News - Alert) Labs. It took the 2015 INTERNET TELEPHONY Innovation Award for the VirtualPBX Softphone App, an app that allows nearly any computer or even smart mobile device into a voice over Internet protocol (VoIP) private branch exchange (PBX (News - Alert)) softphone. The awards focus on providing recognition to products that are clearly innovative, noteworthy, make a clear advance in communications technologies and have a slate of unique features overall.

Then we had a look at X-10 Technologies' new moves at the executive level. Several new members of the executive team were added, with a particular eye toward improving operations and bringing more success to X-10 Technologies. New moves include a new vice president for North American sales in Mark Zeller, a new chief financial officer, a new general manager for the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region and a new vice president of human resources as well.

Finally, we got a set of four specific tips geared toward providing the best and most versatile sort of VoIP infrastructure, vital for anyone looking to improve a company's VoIP presence. The tips are quite actionable, starting with picking the right VoIP gateway for the job. From there, the tips recommend having a clear understanding of the service-oriented architecture (SOA) involved, having a clear focus on mobile VoIP technology so as to better bring mobile devices into play, and making sure there's redundancy enough to have clear backups on hand.

That was the week that was in SIP trunking, and there was more than enough development on hand to give anyone something to consider this week. Our global online community, meanwhile, was clearly on its toes, bringing back the best in news for us to see. So be sure to come back next week for all the latest, and every weekend as well for our Week in Review coverage!
