ShoreTel (News - Alert) recently announced that it had named Eugenia Corrales its new senior vice president, product. Corrales has a lengthy experience working in various roles at several different Silicon Valley-based companies. Her hiring comes at a time when most industry analysts seem to have given a positive outlook for the company.

Sunnyvale, California-based ShoreTel, Inc. offers telephony solutions in the cloud, on-premises, or as a hybrid of the two, and also unified communications (UC). Earlier this year, Gartner placed ShoreTel in the Leaders Quadrant for Unified Communications (News - Alert) for Midsize Enterprises, North America. The company was recently chosen by the San Francisco Giants Major League Baseball club to provide a VoIP telecom solution. Its reduced costs; integration with third-party solutions, including a CRM application; and its simplicity were the main factors why the club went with ShoreTel.

According to her LinkedIn profile, Corrales has over 25 years of experience working in the tech industry. After receiving a B.A. from Grinnell College, she received an M.S. from Stanford University. From there, she worked in various engineering and management roles for HP. After working in several managerial positions at Cisco (News - Alert) for six years, Corrales worked for various companies providing solar energy solutions. She followed that up with a brief stint working as an independent consultant before returning to Cisco in 2013, where she was a vice president involved with products for the data center group. That was the last position she held before her hiring at ShoreTel.

It appears that industry analysts overall have a positive outlook for ShoreTel. A look at an aggregation of ratings from industry analysts shows that since 2014, six of eight ratings were “outperform” or better. The most recent ones were a buy rating from Lake Street Capital and an outperform rating by Northland Securities. Another respected source, Zacks, rates ShoreTel as a hold, a more neutral rating than the others.

As is often the case with most high-level hirings, the hiring of Corrales comes at a critical time for ShoreTel. The company seems to be doing well, although some experts are withholding optimism. UC and VoIP are pretty hot items and have a huge growth potential, but with giants like Cisco and Avaya (News - Alert) as competitors, success will not be easily achieved.
