This week was positively staggering in terms of news for session initiation protocol (SIP) trunking, so much so that even I was shocked by the sheer amount of news. With all that on hand, it's going to be tough to pick out the biggest, but since it's the weekend once more, it's time to do exactly that. So settle in and hang on, because we've got a stuffed field of news to go over with our Week in Review coverage!
First we had an interview with Ingate Systems president Steve Johnson (News - Alert) to talk about the company's new SIParator Line Enhancements, as well as take a closer look at the newest licensing model the company had on hand. The entire Ingate product line has seen its share of changes in recent days, and its new SIParator / Firewall S52 enterprise session border controller (E-SBC) is a huge change. With support for up to 2,000 concurrent calls, this is a huge boost for anyone looking for growth in the field.
Next came word from Accenture, which brought out a new line of advanced analytics tools that will give telecom customers valuable new insight. The applications offer several different functions and are reusable and adaptable to needs on the ground. Tools available include the Call Volume Forecaster, the Revenue Forecasting tool, the Bundle Pricing system and several others, and can not only be run on the Accenture (News - Alert) Analytics platform, but also can be run as standalone options.
One Source Networks (OSN) stepped in next, with a big achievement in tow. It had recently been named to the 5,000 fastest growing private companies list from Inc. Magazine known as the Inc. 5000. OSN reached this rank on the strength of some huge new growth numbers--it's up 202 percent over the last three years--as well as a hefty $65.4 million in revenue in 2014 and a total 108 employees, adding 72 of those just recently. But this isn't the first time the company was on the list, either; reports suggest that OSN has seen the Inc. 5000 list five times running.
Then we had a look at Google Hangouts, whose new Hangouts 4.0 version adds quite a bit of extra power to the system. Included in the operation were a new contact list and people search option so as to make finding certain people easier, a new compose button to make one-on-one and group conversations launch more readily, and even the ability to both receive and reply to group MMS functions for Google (News - Alert) Voice. Those interested in upgrades need only hit the Google Play Store.
Finally, we had a look at FatPipe, who dropped word that a major global business process outsourcing provider has turned to FatPipe's breed of SD-WAN technology to make its call centers more reliable worldwide. While the company was previously using a VoIP service over a multiprotocol label switching (MPLS) system, the end product suffered from some significant reliability issues. But with FatPipe, the use of virtual private network (VPN) tunneling between devices should help augment quality.
That was the week that was in SIP trunking, and clearly, it was another major week indeed. Our global online community was up to the task, though, and brought out all the best in news the week had to offer. So be sure to join us back here next week for all the latest, and every weekend as well for our Week in Review coverage!
