It's been quite a week in session initiation protocol (SIP) trunking, and it would be easy to think that going into a holiday weekend we might slow down a bit this week. But no, that's not the case. We had lots of news, and we have some ground to cover. So before you put that barbecue to light, and get ready for the unofficial end of summer, settle in and let's run down the biggest events of the week with our Week in Review coverage!

First, Cisco (News - Alert) brought out quite the bit of news, as it launched a suit against HP, alleging breach of contract. The breach was said to come about in the Master Installment Payment Letter Agreement and the accompanying schedule established between HP and Cisco Capital. Cisco is said to be seeking a declaratory judgment, with a particular focus on the cancellation credit involved.

Next, Crexendo stepped in with an exciting bit of news, landing the 2015 INTERNET TELEPHONY Excellence Award. Not only did it win the award, but it won said award for three years running. It took the award for its line of business cloud phone systems, packed full of features ranging from hunt groups to find-me-follow-me systems and well beyond. With pricing starting at $19.95 per user per month, the value of this impressive solution only makes it clearer just how this system won awards.

San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) then arrived on the scene, launching a new service that represented one of the first such services seen in the United States. More specifically, it's the SDG&E Marketplace, a service that allows customers to find the most energy efficient options on hand and help save money on power bills. Customers will have a range of options on hand, ranging from water conservation tools—a particular help in California's drought conditions—to thermostats and appliances with a focus on energy savings.

Then, we had a look at one of the most important concepts in the SIP trunking universe: what businesses need to know before selecting a provider. Some questions are quite obvious, like asking what is offered and how it relates to other offerings, but there are others that might not jump out so readily, like the kind of support on hand if something goes wrong. Security measures, willingness to adopt new technologies, and the cancellation fees involved are also important to have in mind before signing on that bottom line.

Finally, we had a look at DOTVOX, the new VoIP service from Trapp Technology. DOTVOX offers a cloud-hosted unified communications service powerful enough for most any enterprise user, offering reduced capital expense (CAPEX) and operational expense (OPEX (News - Alert)) while also offering the best in support, a combination said to be unique in the field.

That was the week that was in SIP trunking, and man, what a week it was. From lawsuits to awards, the time leading up to Labor Day weekend was packed full of news, and our global online community was right in the thick of it, bringing back all the best in news for us to cover. So be sure to join us back here next week for all the latest in this ever-changing field, and every weekend as well for our Week in Review coverage!
