Toshiba's Hybrid Cloud and On-premise VoIP Networking Solution Wins Award

By Michael Guta Contributing Writer

Businesses across all segments are deploying communications solutions that give them the option to communicate with their employees, customers and vendors through different channels. This is no longer reserved for high-tech companies or large enterprises. As a 70-year-old company, Dixie Plywood and Lumber Company in Savannah, Ga., recently deployed Toshiba’s Hybrid Cloud and On-premise VoIP Networking Solution to address its communications needs. According to Toshiba, the deployment by Dixie Plywood of its product in part resulted in it winning a 2015 Internet Telephony Excellence Award.

By adding the VIPedge cloud-based business telephone solution from Toshiba to its IPedge on-premises business telephone systems, Dixie now had a hybrid communication platform with more possibilities. The company is able to connect on-site and cloud with telephone solutions from a single vendor, thus ensuring the redundancy it needs for uptimes across multiple sites even if there are outages or other emergencies.

Danny Simmons, PC and Equipment specialist for Dixie Plywood and Lumber Company, said, "Toshiba's Hybrid Cloud Telephony solution connects our business telephone solutions together so our employees can communicate more effectively with our customers, dealers and each other."

Toshiba was able to process in excess of 100,000 calls per month for more than 250 users, while supporting remote users at multiple locations over IP and the cloud. The remote access capability integrates mobility features so users can make and receive calls on their smartphones no matter where they are as though they were in the office. The Follow Me feature is able to forward office calls to any telephone number, and the Twinning feature allows a single incoming call to ring on multiple telephones.

The enterprise browser-based manager has self-administration features that lets users make changes and updates from anywhere with Internet access. This gives organizations the ability to adapt to existing conditions without having to call/wait for support or IT personnel as with legacy systems.

"We are honored to receive a 2015 Internet Telephony Excellence Award for our Hybrid Cloud and On-premise Networking Solution," said Brian Metherell, vice president and general manager of Toshiba America Information Systems, Inc., Telecommunication Systems Division.

Whether it is a 70-year-old lumber company or a new startup, having a hybrid cloud communication solution gives organizations the flexibility they need to adapt to existing and new technologies. The Toshiba Hybrid Cloud Telephony platform won the award for making these very features available to its customers.
