Educating end users, resellers, distributors and systems integrators about SIP Trunking is on the agenda as Ingate Systems (News - Alert) partners with TMC, leading IP-PBX vendors, SIP Trunking service providers and industry thought-leaders to present the “SIP Trunking: Everything You Need to Know“ seminars at ITEXPO East 2009, which take place February 2–4, 2009 in Miami Beach, Florida.

In an effort to give attendees a taste of what will be covered in the upcoming SIP Trunking seminar we decided to engage several of the featured participating speakers in a brief Q&A to get their insights into why people should attend this seminar, what the benefits of SIP Trunking are, and who might benefit from this technology, as well as a high-level view of what opportunities SIP Trunking might provide in this uncertain economy.

Avaya speakers will be well represented in the conference program, participating in two sessions on Monday February 2: Introduction to SIP Trunking and The Enterprise Infrastructure as well as the Wednesday February 4 session: Just for Carriers: SIP Trunk Intensive Workshop.

We asked Alan Klein, Consulting Systems Engineer, Avaya, Inc./North America Technical Operations to share his thoughts ahead of the event.

GG: Why should conference-goers attend this seminar?
AK: This seminar offers an excellent opportunity to hear the diverse points of view from experienced industry participants and gain a better understanding of the value each vendor offers into the marketplace, additionally showing how all the individual pieces fit together.

GG: What can attendees expect to hear from you at the upcoming seminar? (What subjects/elements will you specifically address?)
AK: Avaya will be addressing how the components of the customer premise based equipment such as an IP-PBX (News - Alert) and Unified Communications applications, integrate with public SIP trunking and the benefits SIP trunking offers.

GG: What does your company do in the SIP Trunking space?
AK: Avaya sells primarily the customer premise based communication systems that are SIPConnect certified (some systems are use in a hosted or managed services model). These systems offer the capability of interfacing via public SIP trunks. Avaya works closely with our partners through a formal test plan process and publically posts interoperability application notes detailing the tested configurations.

GG: What are the benefits of SIP Trunking? Why should enterprises consider this technology?
AK: Public SIP trunking benefits include the consolidation of communication access allowing more efficient utilization and pricing options, the reduction of the associated re-occurring trunking charges, the reduction of the amount of communications hardware required, the reduction of the level of on-going maintenance and power consumption charges, and innovation and flexibility in communications design.

GG: Who stands to benefit the most from adopting this technology?
AK: Enterprise, small business and contact center customers benefit from reduced cost and enhanced communication infrastructures. SIP trunking can also benefit corporations who are tying together disparate communication systems either through the service provider, or across their own networks.

GG: Is the SIP Trunking market “primed for takeoff” in 2009? Why?
AK: We believe SIP trunking is indeed “primed for takeoff” in 2009 as interest in public SIP trunking from our customers has grown exponentially, particularly in the second half of 2008. Avaya along with our DeveloperConnection (News - Alert) partners are actively educating customers of the benefits of public SIP trunking and positioning SIP solutions into the market place, which have gone through extensive interoperability testing.

GG: Does the current financial situation bode well for SIP Trunking or does the economy pose a challenge to the success and adoption of this technology?
AK: The current economic conditions considerably motivate our customers to seek out innovative ways to reduce costs throughout their organizations, something SIP trunking addresses.

GG: Please describe your relationship with Ingate.
AK: Ingate Systems Inc. is a gold member in the Avaya DeveloperConnection Program, often referred to as Avaya DevConnect. Avaya DeveloperConnection is part of the Avaya Global Partner Framework – a family of programs that recognize, support and reward partner companies while allowing Avaya to broaden its market coverage and offer customers end-to-end solutions that address their business challenges. We have several joint customers who rely on the combination of our solutions to properly operate their business.

ITEXPO takes place at the Miami Beach Convention Center, in Miami Beach FL, February 2–4, 2009.
