GENBAND Enhances G9 Converged Gateway

By Divya Narain SIP Trunking Report Contributor

Plano, Texas based next-generation IP infrastructure solutions provider GENBAND Inc. has reportedly enhanced its G9 Converged Gateway by adding a functionality that facilitates migration to all-IP next generation networks such as LTE. Several other useful features have been added to the gateway including support for IPv6, CDMA, and satellite networks, IP transcoding and enterprise femtocells.

Support for IPv6 will be more relevant now that IPv4 addresses are all but exhausted.  Support for IPv6 ensures interoperability as per 3GPP, 3GPP2 and IETF standards.  The new CDMA and satellite capabilities are also a valuable addition to G9’s extensive GSM, UMTS and IMS network capabilities. It is now possible for G9 to directly transcode IP sessions between these networks ensuring greater interconnection for network operators.

Another significant enhancement to G9 is the support for enterprise femtocell functionality which ensures greater mobility within small and medium enterprises. This feature is especially useful for the European and Asian Femto markets where indoor coverage is in high demand.

“Our G9 Gateway plays a major role in mobile growth and provides a powerful strategic platform for continued innovation as we support our customers’ wide range of IP networking and application needs, whether wireless or wireline, IPv4 or IPv6 based, or interworking between the different network types,” said Keith Landau, Executive Vice President of Research and Development at GENBAND. “The G9 gateway’s unique distributed and decoupled architecture delivers high-performance IP packet capabilities as networks migrate to IP at the access layer and in the core.”

Tailored for use in mobile, fixed line and converged operators’ packet and circuit-switched networks, GENBAND’s G9 Converged Gateway is a high-density, carrier class trunking, access and signaling gateway. About GENBAND

GENBAND has a proven track record catering to 50 of the world’s largest service providers by providing its next-generation IP media, session border and fixed mobile convergence security solutions. Earlier this year, TMCnet reported that WaveCrest is going to deploy GENBAND S3 Session Border Controllers (SBCs) with (Multi-Protocol Session Exchange(MSX) intelligent routing features.
