SoTel Systems (News - Alert), a provider of ITSP and SIP services, has announced that its SoTel SIP trunking service has been certified qualified for use with Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 R2.

Session Initiation Protocol(SIP) is the common interconnection standard for VoIP applications, enabling the setup and teardown of calls in an IP environment. As opposed to traditional telephony, where bundles of copper wire deliver voice calls from the Local Exchange Carrier service provider to a business, SIP trunks allow replacement of these traditional fixed PSTN lines with PSTN connectivity via a SIP trunking service provider on the Internet, enabling a variety to cost-saving and productivity-enhancing features of VoIP and Unified Communications (News - Alert) products to be extended beyond the enterprise network.

Moz Hussain, director of the Unified Communications Group at Microsoft, said that Sotel provides its channel partnerswith a powerful communications solution. The combination of Sotel SIP Services with OCS 2007 R2 creates an “innovative suite of communications services that can be quickly brought to market by our partners,” he noted.

SoTeloffers a variety of SIP trunking solutions to meet the needs of both SMBs and large enterprises, including Opti-Max IP, Opti-Plus IP, Opti-Flex IP, Opti-Link IP, SIPCore, and more.

“The addition of Office Communications Server R2 to the growing list of manufacturers with SIP certification on the SoTel network brings greater flexibility and more options for both enterprise and SMB customers,” said James F. Goebel, CEO at SoTel Systems.

Gold Systems Conference Serveris one of the first applications to take advantage of SoTel’s SIP trunking service. The product is developed by Gold Systems (News - Alert), a Microsoft Gold Certified Partnerand unified communications expert.

The product provides conferencing services using OCS 2007 R2 and SoTel SIP trunks. With the system, companies can host conference calls at a fraction of the cost of outside conference services.

“With Office Communications Server 2007 R2 software running on industry-standard servers, we can provide a solution that’s less expensive to acquire and maintain,” said Terry Gold, CEO at Gold Systems.

He added that by using SIP trunks from SoTel Systems, users don’t need to pay for extra capacity that isn’t used most of the time.

Currently, SoTel SIP Services are available nation-wide to all authorized Office Communications Server 2007 R2 resellers and their customers.
