Sonus Networks, Inc., an innovator in IP-based network solutions, will be losing an integral member of its company, as its executive vice president and chief operating officer, Guru Pai, has stepped down from his post.

Citing personal reasons for his departure, Pai spent two years with Sonus Networks (News - Alert), a company that has garnered recognition in the industry for its expertise in delivering reliable and secure next-generation infrastructure and subscriber solutions.

"I am grateful to Guru for his nearly two years of service to Sonus, and wish him and his family all the best in the future," said Ray Dolan, president and chief executive officer of Sonus Networks.

The company has yet to name a replacement for 44-year-old Pai, a veteran to the telcom industry. Appointed executive vice president and COO of Sonus in February 2010, Pai developed corporate strategies for sales and revenue growth, global go-to-market, business development, and the creation and engineering of the company’s portfolio of solutions and services.

Pai, who joined Sonus in 2008, previously served as vice president of marketing and business development at Veveo. Before that, he held the position of vice president of the Core Networks division for Motorola (News - Alert), Inc., which he joined in April 2003 through its acquisition of Winphoria Networks, Inc. There, he served as vice president of business development, product management and marketing.

He also held a post at Lucent Technologies, as well as several positions with AT&T (News - Alert) and AT&T Bell Laboratories.

Despite the news of Pai’s leaving, the company assures that it will keep with its previously announced full-year total revenue guidance of $225 to $245 million. Sonus Networks’ lineup of products consists of solutions for session border controllers; policy and routing; media and signaling gateway; telephony application server; management and tools; service delivery, and more. Its IP solutions have been deployed by several renowned telecom operator networks and Global 500 enerprises.

Sonus Networks’ services have been deployed in over 50 countries for more than 150 customers. For example, after experiencing tremendous growth in IP traffic, Peerless Network (News - Alert) recently deployed Sonus Networks’ solutions, as reported by TMCnet. The service provider specializing in simplified interconnection of voice, data and signaling across disparate networks purchased the Sonus Networks’ Network Border Switch to expand the capacity of its IP peering aggregation points.
