Compared to the United States, Canada is something of a fledgling when it comes to SIP trunking. The technology has been slow to catch on, making it difficult for new service providers to start up and begin offering SIP-enabled telephony services, as so often happens in the competitive US market. Slowly but surely, however, no doubt due to the visible success of such services south of the border, demand has in fact begun to rise in Canada. Noticing the growing interest in SIP trunking, ThinkTel, a Canadian-owned business telecommunications provider catering to SMBs, enterprise, and wholesale customers, has been working to establish a strong foothold in the largely young market.



Avaya Canada recently announced that it has entered into a strategic collaboration with the Lauzon Group. The best-in-class Avaya IP Office will now be implemented by the Lauzon Group for improving customer services and decreasing expenses.



The company unveiled its cloud service solutions, with the Hosted Private Branch Exchange (PBX) as the centerpiece. FairPoint says that its PBX is a VoIP based unified communications solution that will give its customers the flexibility they are looking for in these types of programs. By attaching a VoIP option to the package, customers will have feature-rich voice and data connection that allows them to avoid the cost and hassle of installing an onsite phone system.



In its newly published report, North American Hosted IP Telephony and UCC Services Market analysis, Frost & Sullivan says that companies in North America are looking to focus on their core businesses more than ever before.



With recent concerns about U.S. government surveillance of phone and Internet conversations, there are lingering questions if Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) calls are secure and confidential.



Just as the iPhone seemingly wiped out all other modes of communication, SIP trunking is beginning to make its own technology revolution, as more and more enterprises start to adopt VoIP and move away from the traditional PSTN.



Citel Technologies, a provider of network-edge products to help enterprises realize cost and productivity benefits, signed an authorized reseller agreement with South Africa-based Celabix.



Dialogic debuts its BorderNet diameter services helix (DSH) solution which can seamlessly integrate an interworking function (IWF) along with Diameter traffic routing, mediation and security features in a single software-based solution.
